In the beginning of the 19th century several foreign companies looked at the possibility to start mining in the Kongsberg area. One of them was called "The Royalberg Copper Mined Ltd". They started test-mining on copper, galena and sphalerite at Byggmesteråsen nearby Kjennerudvann.
The company mined during the years 1904-1909. During this period they only got 1500 tons of ore.
