Allen Quarry; Moss Quarry

A magnesite mine on Cedar Creek that consisted of two pits that were operated together on the same lens. The deposit had a barren zone of dolomite in the center that was left behind. It was discovered in 1916 and produced ore from 1917-1920 by the American Mineral Production Company. At its peak 80 men were employed at the pits and it was connected by railway to Valley. It was later sold to the Northwest magnesite Company and ran from 1941-1948 when it was exhausted. Total production was 700,000 tons. The two pits eventually merged into one longer pit.
