Iron mines located on the western side of Tromøy Island. A 500 x 500 m large area with iron skarn has been worked for iron.

The largest mine was Martheskjær/Marteskjerr (Holm 1824, Weibye 1848). It is about 50 m wide and started as an open pit mine, but lafter some shafts were made. The next largest located further south is Tunnelgruva.
There are 10 mines (synk in Norwegian) and 4 prospects 200 m eastwards in the area.

Simonsen (2001) has registered 22 mines and prospects in the Vågsnes area.

The mines were closed around 1850.
