Uranium deposit.

The abandoned uranium mine of Canto do Lagar is located in Arcozelo da Serra, in “zona uranífera das Beiras”, central Portugal. The mine was exploited in open pit and produced about 12 430Kg of uranium oxide (U3O8) between 1987 and 1988.
In the region, the dominant geological unit is the porphyritic granite, coarse-grained, two-mica, mainly biotite. The deposit consists of two holes crushing, parallel to the coarse porphyritic granite with two thin veins of white quartz with gaps, ferruginous with approximately inclination of 70 degrees from 80 degrees to the WNW. These veins are about 6 meters away from each other and contain secondary phases of uranium phosphates such as autunite and torbernite. Rejected materials from mining (about 1.000.000 tons) were deposited in two mine tailings and a lake was formed in the open pit.
