Principally a gold property, but also a former underground Pb-Zn-Au-Ag-Cu mine, located near the head of Hassayampa Creek. Started before 1871. Reopened 1883-1899. Owned by S.O. Fredericks; Phelps Dodge (1889- ). Claims extend into sec. 2, T12N, R2W and sec. 35, T12.5N, R2W.

Mineralization is a tabular ore body. Local rocks are lenses of diorite, amphibolite and Yavapai Conglomeritic schist, all traversed by dikes of rhyolite porphyry. Ore control was faulting and shearing. Ore concentration was oxidation at near surface. No alteration was noted.

Mineralization is comprised of 4 parallel veins (Senator, Snoozer, Ten Spot, & Tredwell) striking NNE. The Senator vein is principally Pb-Zn ores and the only vein that actually paid; the Ten Spot is mainly pyrite; the tredwell is heavy pyrite with specularite and gold; and the Snoozer is copper ores with specularite.

Area structures include dikes and veins that parallel foliation in Precambrian rocks, which trends N35E to N50E.

Workings include a 200 foot deep shaft (1881) with levels, drifts, crosscuts, etc. Later the main shaft was sunk to 835 feet before 1934. The mine (mainly the Senator vein) produced a net of $530,000 (period values). A 10-stamp mill was 1 mile distant on the Hassayampa Creek.
