Old Sb mine (named after cork - su suergiu in Sardinian, due to the abundance of cork oaks in the area), located SW of Villasalto in the valley of Riu Sessini, that exploited a deposit hosted in the tectonic breccia of the shear zone of the Villasalto overthrust, containing bodies of stibnite in a matrix of Silurian black shales, with scattered grains and small layers of main pyrite. Thin layers and veins of scheelite associated with calcite are also present. The tectonic breccia in the area of Villasalto reaches an exceptional thickness (more than one hundred metres) and is ore-bearing for almost 2 km. All ore bodies have the shape of lenses of various sizes, flattened more or less parallel to the tectonic contact and elongated in east-west direction.

Exploitation of the Su Suergiu deposit started in 1858, but only after 1882 it became a significant mine, intensively mined especially during war periods, due to the use of antimony in the military industry. During the early period of activity, the mined antimony ore, concentrated by hand picking and mechanical grading, was subjected to liquation in wood-fired furnaces. Around 1905 the plant was upgraded with the construction of a roasting furnace and a new smelter. In the 1960s the smelting plant significantly increased metal output due to the installation of a rotary furnace and the additional supply of antimony ores from other mines in Italy (Tuscany), Turkey, and China. The mine and the smelting plant stopped all activities in 1987. At Su Suergiu cetineite and mopungite are typical minerals of the weathered roasting-smelting wastes.
