A former Mn occurrence/group of claims/mine located in sec. 32 & in the center W½ & SW¼ sec. 33, T12N, R13W, G&SRM, along the W side of Chapin Wash, about 12 miles S of Signal, on patented (private) land and/or Bureau of Land Management administered land. Additional workings are located in secs. 3 & 4, T11N, R13W. Discovered 1929. Owned by World Manganese Corporation of California, California (1958). Owned by Mazona Associates (1958). Owned by the M. C. Lake estate, Arizona (1973). Operated during the period 1953-1954. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 500 to 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a tabular ore body hosted in Pliocene latite. The ore body is tabular, strikes NW and dips 15SW at a thickness of 1.83 meters and a length of 914.4 meters and covers 4 HA. Ore body Nos. 1 & 2 are fissure veins and ore body No. 3 is a shear zone. The primary mode of origin was contact metasomatism. Primary ore control was igneous activity. Wallrock alteration is slight (propylitic) plus advanced argillitic. A north-trending fault zone has displaced the beds upward to the west side. Local rocks include Middle Miocene to Oligocene sedimentary rocks and/or Late to Middle Miocene basaltic rocks.
Workings include surface and underground openings with a length of 67.06 meters, overall length of 152.4 meters and an overall width of 91.44 meters. The claims were explored by trenches, tunnels and shafts.
