The Hazard Mining Company was organized in 1854 to work 360 acres along the Evergreen Bluff. Prior to organizing, exploration surveys along the Bluff found good copper on the Minesota conglomerate belt. By 1864, several buildings were constructed on the site. An 1864 company report stated that three promising veins crossed the property, but they had not been fully developed as of the report. The mine itself consisted of one shaft and several test pits. The workings proved unprofitable and by the mid 1860s, the property became part of the Knowlton Mine. In 1899, the mine was absorbed by the Mass Consolidated Mining Company.
