Mineralization is situated in NE part of desná dome in blastomylonites which originate in mylonitization and danamic recrystalization of abyssal magmatic rocks (quartz diorites and granodiorites). In the area of deposit quartz metadiorites, metapegmatites and greenschists are often present.
There are two main types of mineralization. Bedded pyrite-chalcopyrite-molybdenite impregnations several meters thick and quartz vein formation several decimeters thick with layers of pyrite and molybdenite. Accumulation of ore was probably caused by general metamorphosis of porphyry type of deposit, quartz veins might be products of metamorphic mobilisation of older mineralization. Two major ore mineral are pyrite and molybdenite. Supergene minerals are rare.
From the bore-holes in deposit are minerals of "alpine paragenesis" (quartz, feldspars, titanite and zeolites) are known.

Pre-Devonian crystalline basement : orthogneisses and migmatites and Devonian regional metamorphic rocks (Variscan orogeny) : quartzites, graphitic phyllites, limestones and volcanites.
The stratiform Vidly deposit is located in the biotite-grade metamorphic zone.
