An U occurrence/prospect located in sec. 35, T33N, R23E and in sec. 9, T32N, R23E, G&SRM, 6.2 km (3.9 miles) ESE of Taasahdi Dzil (summit) (coordinates of record), and 1.9 miles NW of Bitter Water Springs, on land of unstated ownership. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. The Alkali Water Gap Mine has 2 locations. An extension is located approximately 2.6 miles SW of location No.1. Estimated UTM coordinates for the second location are: UTM Northing 4005770.0 & UTM Easting: 601570.0.

Mineralization is a U-V deposit hosted in Late Cretaceous sandstone (light-gray, quartzose, fine- to coarse-grained carbonaceous sandstone). The ore body is comprised of pods and is 0.61 meter thick and 30.48 meters long. Tyuyamunite is replacing cement and coating grains along cross-bedding interbedded between carbonaceous strata. Local rocks include sedimentary rocks of the Late Cretaceous Mesaverde Group.

Workings include surface openings comprised of open pits and rim cuts.

Stratigraphic Name: Mesaverde Group

Description: Gray to buff sandstone with interbedded shale and coal. These rocks, which are similar to slightly younger rocks that form Mesa Verde in southwestern Colorado, were deposited on the margin of a shallow sea. Rocks of this map unit host the only large coal deposits in Arizona. (84-88 Ma)
