A former Au mine located in sec. 24, T2N, R13E, MDM, 0.8 km (0.5 mile) SSW of Melones, about 2.65 km S of Carson Hill (town), along Indian Gulch, near its confluence with the Stanislaus River (on the S slope of Carson Hill (summit); Β½ mile E of Melones), on private (patented) land/claim. This mine was included in the Carson Hill group of mines. Property is comprised of 15 acres. Operated during the period 1890-1893. Consolidated with the Melones Mine in 1895. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in greenstone and slate. The ore body is tabular in form, strikes N30W, dips 80NE, at a thickness of 4.57 meters and a width of 19.81 meters. The mineralized zone is 15 feet wide and comprised of talc schists with 3 distinct quartz veins. The hanging wall is black talcose slate, and the footwall is greenstone. The ore has a ribbon character with gold in sheet form. Local rocks include undivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided) and/or pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 33.53 meters and comprised of a vertical shaft.
