A marble (dimension) deposit located in sec. 29, T4N, R12E, MDM, 0.7 km (0.5 mile) NW of Kentucky House, and 3.2 km (2.0 miles) S of San Andreas (near the site of the alaveras Cement Company's plant - N of it). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. Quarry Nop. 1 was chief source of raw material. It was closed but reopened in 1956. Quarry No. 2 is apparently father N from the plant.
Mineralization is a metamorphic marble deposit. Limestone lens occurs in the Carboniferous Calaveras Formation. Two major lenses of high-calcium limestone lie on the W side of an extensive body of dolomite. The limestone is fine-grained, medium to dark bluish gray in color, and often stylolitic. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) and/or Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include unspecified surface openings.
