A former lode Au mine located in the W½ (estimated) sec. 6, T3N, R14E, MDM, about 2.35 km (1½ miles) W of Murphys. Operated intermittently in the 1880's through 1936. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in mica schist and quartzite. The ore body strikes E and dips 85N at a width of 1.22 meters. There are 2 parallel veins (the Mayflower and the Banner), which conform to the strike and dip of the country rock. The Mayflower vein is 4 feet thick. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 150 foot shaft (East shaft) and a 165 foot shaft (West shaft), 600 feet apart.
