A Cu occurrence/mine located N of Castine. Owned by Frank R. Devereux (1978). Owned by Eugene N. Lymburner (1978). This locality was opened during the Maine Silver Rush of 1880. As was typical of Maine metal mines opened in the time period, the companies were failures and often had fraudulently or mistakenly identified minerals. Many of these mines were supposedly silver mines, but the only "silver" source was low-grade galena. Native silver was never found. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 1,000 meters.
From the junction of routes 199 and 175, go S on 199 1.9 miles; take dirt road W approximately 0.5 mile. Location Is 2,000 feet W of the Lymburner prospect.
A sulfide deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 184; USGS model code: 28a; Deposit model name: Massive sulfide, kuroko; Mark3 model number: 93). Local rocks include Devonian granite (muscovite accessory mineral) of the Devonian-Silurian Castine Formation.
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of one pit and one shaft 25 feet (?) deep.
