The Zermatt - Saas Fee ophiolite complex is a fragment of the Tethys oceanic lithosphere.
Pillows are frequent within deformed metabasalt (eclogite and blueschist association).
Greenschist facies overprints parts of the ophiolite.
Coeval blueschist-eclogite facies is characterized by omphacite-garnet-glaucophane-clinozoisite-dolomite-Mg chloritoid-talc-paragonite-phengite-chlorite assemblage.
Notable is the presence of margarite, paragonite, barroisite, and preiswerkite.

GPS coordinates are currently set approximately in the middle between Zermatt and Saas-Fee.
