Redruth is the major town at the eastern end of what is generally termed the Camborne-Redruth mining district.

Several significant mines lie within the town itself, most notably Pednandrea Mine and Wheal Sparnon.

The town of Redruth has also been plagued by scores of unrecorded mine workings that can cause problems for development.

NOTE: On old labels, "Redruth" often refers to some of the mines that are located immediately west of Redruth, but in Carn Brea or Illogan parishes, such as Carn Brea and Tincroft mines.
The civil parish centred on Redruth town.

It is surrounded on the north by Portreath CP and St Agnes CP, to the east by St Day CP and Lanner CP and to the west by Carn Brea CP and Illogan CP.
