A talc-soapstone occurrence located in the SE¼SW¼ sec. 23, T9N, R9E, MDM, 3.2 km (2.0 miles) WNW of Mount Aigare (coordinates of record), 4.0 km (2.5 miles) NNW of Brandon Corner and 4.5 km 2.8 miles SW of Frenchtown (4 miles SW of Shingle Springs, adjacent to the Southern Pacific Railroad). Operated by Frank Harris. Soapstone has been mined intermittently at this location since 1953 and was still in operation in 1956. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface openings comprised of an open pit approximately 100 feet long, 40 to 60 feet wide and 10 feet deep.
The material mined was trucked in crude form to Berkeley, where it was griound for use as an insecticide carrier.
