A former lode Au mine located in the NE¼SW¼ (near the center of the section) sec. 31, T10N, R11E, MDM, about 3.4 km E of El Dorado, E and S of Martinez Creek (1½ miles SE of Diamond Springs), on private land. Property is comprised of 2 patented claims totaling 40 acres and covering 3,000 feet in length and 600 feet in width. Operated by J. T. Richards. Operated in 1894 and again circa 1923. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in Mariposa slate on the Mother Lode. The ore body strikes N27E and dips 72E at a thickness of 6.1 meters. There are 3 veins at 4 to 20 feet thick. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings and comprised of a 500 foot inclined shaft with 4 levels 100 feet apart. A 600 foot drain tunnel intersects the shaft at the 300 foot level. Another 150 foot shaft was sunk S of the main shaft.
No production record was found.
Small lots of ore yielded $20 (period values) Au/ton, or more.
