Simon Mine, Coloma, Coloma District, West Belt, El Dorado Co., California, USA

A Cr occurrence located in the NE¼SE¼ sec. 5, T11N, R10E, MDM, about 4.3 km N of Coloma, on the divide between Perry Mountain Creek and Johntown Creek (about 2¼ miles SW of Garden Valley), on fee ownership land. Operated by C. F. Gladwill. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.

Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains) and/or Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include surface openings comprised of 2 groups of open cuts.

Recorded production of 94 long tons, of which 45 long tons were sold in 1920. About 11 tons of ore from WWI operations is piled at the foot of the ridge between the 2 deposits. Known reserves are very small though abundant float may indicate the presence of undiscovered deposits.
