A placer Au occurrence located in the NW¼SW¼ sec. 17, T11N, R10E, MDM, on state land. Operated by W. D. Othick C/O C. A. Carver (1926). Property contains 11 acres. Site of Sutter's Mill in 1848. Probably now included in the Gold Discovery Site State Park, shown on USGS quadrangle Coloma, California, topo map (1950). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.

Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
