A former Au mine located in the S½ (estimated) sec. 23, T6S, R35E, MDM, 3.0 km (1.8 miles) S of Index Hill (coordinates of record), along the North Fork Birch Creek (1¾ miles S of Roberts Ranch, on the divide between Wyman Creek and Birch Creek), on National Forest wilderness land (Birch Creek Roadless Area Review & Evaluation (RARE II) Area). Property consisted of 8 claims. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in schist. The ore body is 1.83 meters thick. Controls for ore emplacement included joint planes. The ore is stringers in a mineralized schist belt, 300 feet ion thickness. Mineralization is 2 to 6 feet (0.6 to 1.82 meters) thick. Local alteration includes silicification of the schist. Local rocks include Precambrian rocks, undivided, unit 1 (Death Valley).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 2 shafts. The East shaft is 65 feet deep. A 122 foot drift to the W on the 45 foot level, connects with an incline that is 130 feet in depth.
Analytical data results: 55 feet of silicified schist lies between the 2 shafts, and was reported to have had an average value of $7.00/ton of Au (period values).
