A former lode Au mine located in sec. 20, T4S, R17E, MDM, 1.1 km (3,500 feet) NE of Bear Valley. Operated in 1903. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. UTM estimated, section lines projected.
NOTE: MRDS database file #10139738 presents T&R values of sec. 16, T5S, R17E, MDM and coordinates of 37.4960N, 120.1101W. These values are very close to those of the Champion IV Mine. It is possible that that MRDS file confused the 2 similarly named mines. It does provide a distinct MAS-MILS file number for this mine. File #10102884 validates its values by stating the locality's proximity to Bear Valley, in agreement with the coordinates. The latter file's coordinates are presented here.
Mineralization is a vein deposit. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains) and/or Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include unspecified underground openings.
Production data are found in: Bowen, O.E., Jr. & C.H. Gray, Jr. (1957).
No further record of production found.
