A former lode Au mine located in sec. 8, T5S, R18E, MDM, 2.1 km (6,900 feet) E of Mount Bullion, along Agua Fria Creek, on private (patented) land. The property consists of 33 patented acres. Operated by Frank B. Ewing. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. Formerly a Las Mariposas land grant mine.
NOTE: MRDS file #10285229 presents data that this locality is on Bureau of Land Management wilderness area (Merced River Wilderness Study Area). This is highly unlikely based on the topo map and the fact that this mine lies on Las Mariposas land grant land.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in serpentinite. The ore body is pockety. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains) and/or Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
