Felden deposit (Feldon deposit; Felden & Holloway prospect), Banner, Banner District, San Diego Co., California, USA

A former, very small W mine located in the SE¼ Sec 26, T13S, R5E, SBM, in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park about 7.9 miles SE of Banner on the crest of the ridge S of the Box Canyon. Discovered by H. L. Jackson of Brawley and E. H. Johnson of San Diego in 1941. It was leased by Frank Felden in the 1950’s.

The adit is located at N 33.0058861 W 116.4331055, elev. 2,960 feet and the trench with the dump in a distance of 1,480 feet at N33.009147 W116.435687, at an elevation of 3,080 feet.

The deposit consists of tactite interlayered with quartzite and quartz-biotite schist. Tactite averaged about 1% WO3. The garnet found was of brownish color.

Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a 50 foot trench, several shallow pits and 1 short inclined shaft. In 2013 the shaft was still accessible and a small dump was visible.

Production was negligible.
