A former lode Cu-Au-Pb-Ag mine located in secs. 28 & 33, T34N, R5W, MDM, 2.6 km (8,700 feet) ENE of Mammoth Butte (coordinates of record), along the Little Backbone Creek. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Mineralization is a lenticular ore body. Due to the flat-lying nature of the ore strike and dips are uncertain. It probably strikes a little N of E and dips to the S at a small angle. Pyrite is the major ore component. Local rocks include Paleozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 1 (Eastern Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings. Principal development is from 2 adit levels, 100 feet apart vertically. The lower adit is believed to be below the ore body. Considerable stoping has been done from the upper adit. The adits are roughly 300 feet in length.
Production data are found in: Averill, C. V. (1939).
A 50 ton Mace furnace was operated on the property for a short time in 1937. No production was reported.
