A former Mn mine located in sec. 6, T5S, R6E, MDM, 3.0 km (9,900 feet) NE of Mount Oso, along Grummett Creek near its confluence with Cedar Spring Gulch (about 1 mile E of the Tip Top Mine), on private land (fee ownership). Owned by Charles Fisher (100.00%), Modesto, California (1975). Discovered and first produced in 1918. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
NOTE: A relevent file in the MRDS database places this locality in the "Tesla" District. The "Livermore District (Tesla District)" lies in neighboring Alameda County. This locality lies in the midst of localities within the "Ladd-Buckeye District" (Southern end of the district), to the E of the supposed intervening "Del Puerto - Orestimba District." This file presents it as being in the Ladd-Buckeye District.
The ore body strikes E and dips 70N at a thickness of 0.91-2.0 meters, a depth-to-top of 1 meter, a width of 10 meters and a length of 15 meters. The ore bodies are sedimentary-lenticular, disseminated and stockwork. The primary mode of origin was sedimentation and the secondary was oxidation. Primary ore control was bedding. There is no wallrock alteration. Three ore beds 1 to 3 feet thick, of disseminated oxide in chert are exposed along strike for about 40 feet. The ore beds are within a stratigraphic interval of 20 feet. Local rocks include rocks of the Franciscan melange.
Analytical data results: The average grade is 25% Mn.
