An Fe-Mn-silica occurrence/prospect located in sec. 21, T6S, R5E, MDM, about 5 miles N of Black Mountain, S of Peach Tree Creek, just N of the Santa Clara County line (1,000 feet SE of the Black Bolt claim), on private land (fee ownership). Discovered in 1941. Owned by Mary Lou Thronson (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
The ore body strikes N10E and dips 15 to 30W (generally 22 W), at a thickness of 5 meters and a width of 20 meters and a length of 40 meters. The first ore body is sedimentary and lenticular in shape, a second ore body is disseminated and irregular in form, and a third ore body is stockwork. The primary mode of origin was sedimentation and the secondary mode was oxidation. Primary ore control was lithology and secondary was bedding. The ore body is exposed along strike for 145 feet. Average width is 1.5 feet, with a maximum of 2 feet. The bed is gently folded so that the outcrop is S-shaped. The ore is mainly siliceous black oxide, and some is massive. Ore is poorest at the S end where it pinches out. The ore is probably faulted at the N end, but no continuation was found. Local rocks include rocks of the Franciscan melange.
Workings include surface openings.
Analytical data results: Average grade is 25% Mn.
