A former lode Au mine located in secs. 20 & 21, T31N, R11W, MDM (2 locations. UTM taken for Mueller claim), 6.7 km (4.1 miles) SE of Hayfork, in the headwaters area of Middle Fork Kingsbury Gulch, on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in slate and chert. The ore body strikes NW TO E-W and dips 46NE TO 70S, at a thickness of 3.66 meters. Ore controls included a shear zone (?). Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 9 (Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings. The main adit level is on the Gold Hill claim, and is 400 feet long, with 320 feet on the vein and 2 raises to surface, the largest at 140 feet on the dip of the vein. The adit on vein to SE strikes crosscut vein approximately 50 feet below surface with 50 feet of drifting. Several hundred feet of adits driven on similar cross-veins on southerly end of property. Millsite on property.
No production record was found. Most of the ore was milled and treated by amalgamation.
Analytical data results: $7/ton in Au (period values). Amounted to 1/3 of the ore. The balance was in sulfides. Free gold occurred in a smaller vein to the SE from $30-$50/ton (period values).
