Undeveloped mineral deposit.
Alice Springs 1:250 000 Map.

Coles Hill was the old name, however the prospect name was changed to Red Rock Bore, the bore itself is 500 metres west of the deposit. Since explored, the Alice Springs-Darwin railway line has been constructed right through the middle of the west north-west trending deposit. Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag-Au prospect.

Discovered by BMR in 1966. Explored by Planet Mining Pty Ltd 1974, MacMahon 1988, Roebuck Resources 1995-1997.

Mineralisation is in garnet-cordierite-blue quartz-magnetite-pyroxene-quartzite. 1700 metres long ridge, with extensive costeans flanking it. Early explorers note extensive magnetite, however Roebuck Resources in the mid 1990's found only minor magnetite and pyrrhotite. The sequence from the surface down is 0-44 metres weathered schistose gneiss of sillimanite-kyanite-garnet-biotite; 58-144 metres weathered garnet-quartz-epidote gneiss, quartz-biotite gneiss, and quartz-feldspar rock; 58-64 metres garnet-chlorite schist; 65-85 metres garnet-quartzite with Cu mineralisation then Cu-Zn; 85-89 metres garnet pyroxenite and garnet-quartz-anthophyllite-pyrite rock; 89-119 metres garnet-quartzite with thin bands of pyroxenite-magnetite-pyrite, and garnet-pyroxenite-sphalerite-galena; 119-161 metres biotite-quartz-garnet rock with some pyrrhotite and pyroxene bands.

Roebuck Resources list a couple of some small un-named anomalies nearby. 3.5 kilometres north of Red Rock Bore is a magnetite-copper deposit. This shows as massive magnetite and chalcopyrite gossan up to 5.5 metres wide, also with gold and minor lead. 3.0 kilometres north-east of Red Rock Bore an amphibolite-copper prospect of copper in anthophyllite-tremolite schist, containing a small pit showing copper staining of gossanous rock. Gold also found.
