A former surface and underground Ag-Mn mine located in the SE¼ sec. 35, T2N, R15E, 1¾ miles SW of Crash-up Mountain, on National Forest land. Discovered 1956. The Manganese King is a single claim which was explored for copper in the early days of the district. Owned by Mr. Dave Lewis (1961).
Mineralization is an irregular ore body hosted in the Apache Group Quartzite. The ore zone is 121.92 meters long, 9.14 meters wide, strikes NE and dips vertically. An associated rock unit is diabase.
Workings are comprised of an old vertical shaft about 20 feet (6.1 meters) deep and a few shallow opencuts scattered along the ourcrop. Although a little manganiferous silver ore may have been produced, there are no records indicating that Mn ore has ever been shipped.
