A number of pegmatites prospected for beryl and U-minerals are found in the Ambohimasina Commune in the south and in the Faratsiho Commune in the North along the border of the Vavavato granite massif some 40 km NW of the town Antsirabe in the main highland of Madagascar.

These pegmatites as a group has been refered to by Besaire (1966) as "La groupe d'Ambohimasina". Among these are the Ampangabe (the locality from which the now descredited "Ampangabeite" , synonym of Samarskite=(Y) was described from), Sahamandrevo, Lohavalala and Ambatovoahangy pegmatites.

Nice amethyst among others are also known from this commune.
