Formerly: Edith Mine, Black Lake, Mégantic Co., Québec, Canada

Chrysotile asbestos mine operated intermittently between 1921 and 1971.
Located west of Black Lake.
Originally operated by the Asbestos Corporation Limited. as an open pit.

Comment - discovery: Discovered: No information History of work: In 1920-21, BENNETT MARTIN ASBESTOS AND CHROME M.L. - Open-cut excavation and trenching. In 1948-50 and 1968, ASBESTOS CORP. LTD - Soundings (300 m) and stripping. In 1981, SOC. NATIONALE DE L'AMIANTE - Holder.

Comment - lithology: The host rock is a serpentinized peridotite cut by a quartz monzonite, all belonging to the Thetford-Mines ophiolitic complex. Alteration along the shear zones consists of carbonation and steatization. The Edith deposit is located at the end of the quartz monzonite mass associated with the Black Lake Group. This granitic dyke, which runs parallel along its entire length to the contact between the ultrabasic rocks of the ophiolitic complex and the Cambrian meta-sedimentary rocks, shows great variations in thickness, even disappearing in places. The Edith deposit lies immediately above the dyke, which dips sub-horizontally to the west (ES-018).

The mine was covered by the LAB mine workings
