Peat and bituminous coal deposit: sedimentary rocks of organic origin consisting predominantly of carbonised plant remains.
One kilometre to the east of kilometre 50 on the Acheral road to Tafí del Valle, in a small valley side of the left bank, it has retained about 75 meters above the river La Angostura, a remainder of deposit River of the flood, in the form of "silt", silty sand and peat banks interspersed therein up to 2 meters of thickness being this little extensive deposit, presenting plant fragments and crumbly surface. There are many plants fragments visible in peat, often including large roots and it is high in water, and breaks unevenly when dry and likes as soft rock.
This rock represents the initial stage in the modification of plant material to lignite and bituminous coal and the origin is continental. Forms from the deposition of plant debris on forest floors, in fens, or on moorland. By decay and reconstruction, the bottom layers of peat banks become compacted, darkened and hardened, while the carbon content increases.
- Cinerite:
Cinerite robes were found 300 meters to the east of the route that goes from La Angostura towards the city of Tafí del Valle and 400 meters from the turn-off to El Mollar. The cinerite is presented in compact banks and is bluish gray color and coarse grain. Elevation: 1,916 m. asl.
