A former lode Au-Pb occurrence/mine located in the SW¼ sec. 1 & in the NW¼NW¼ sec. 12, T8N, R9E, MDM, 1.8 km (1.1 miles) SSW of Brandon Corner, SSE of Sugarloaf (summit) (1¾ miles NE of El Dorado), on private land. First worked in the early days of the gold rush and active again in the 1880's. Prospected during the early 1920's. Operated intermittently since 1954 by the Butler Mining and Development Company. Operated by the Sugar Loaf Mining Co. (time frame unknown). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.

Mineralization is a quartz vein and pocket deposit in the West Gold Belt, hosted in slate, serpentinite and diorite. The ore body strikes N and dips 75W. The vein is 5 feet thick on average with a slate footwall and a talcose serpentine hanging wall. Dikes of medium-grained diorite are associated with slate. High grade ore was found intermittently below the 100 foot level. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include surface and underground openings. Open cuts were excavated in the early days of operation. Later worked by a 175 foot inclined shaft with 3 levels (100, 130 & 175 feet) that was sunk in the early 1930's.

Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & D.W. Carlson (1956).

Some high-grade ore was shipped.
