A former Cr mine located in secs. 13, 14, 23 & 24, T37N, R4W, MDM, 2.8 km (9,000 feet) WSW of Sims Station, 3.3 km (2.0 miles) WSW of Sims, and 10.7 km (6.6 miles) SW of Castella, on the divide between the North Fork Shotgun Creek and the South Fork Shotgun Creek, just W of their confluence to form Shotgun Creek. Patented claim(s) (private land). Owned by John A. and Ann C. O'Malley (100.00%), 814 S. Leland St., San Pedro, Ca. 90731 (1976). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.

Mineralization is hosted in dunite and serpentinite. The ore body strikes N40E, dips 90N, at 5 meters thick, awidth of 30 meters, and a length of 230 meters. Depth to top is 0.0 meters. The ore body(ies) are disseminated, tabular, irregular and/or lenticular. Primary mode of origin is magnatic differentiation. Primary ore control was lithology. Wallrock alteration is moderate (carbonitization). Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 1 (Trinity Ophiolite). The mine is located near the eastern edge of a large tabular-shaped body of peridotite with an anticlinal structure that occurs in the NW corner of the county.

Workings incloude surface and underground openings. The underground operations are 29 meters long at an overall depth of 9 meters. The mining method was open stope. Workings consisted of 4 small open cuts and two adits averaging 10 meters each (1975). Workings are caved at the portal(s).

Production data are found in: Wells, F.G. and Hawkes, H.E. (1965) Chromite deposits of Shasta, Tehama, Trinity and Humboldt counties, California. California Division Mines and Geology Bulletin 134, part 1, chapter 3: 157.

Assay analyses results: (1900): ^43.9% Cr2o3, 12.4% Fe, Cr To Fe Ratio 2.3:1.
