Meteorite site in Australia. Om IIIAB, 1931 TKW 1000+ kg.
Located 120 km south of Alice Springs, in the Henbury Meteorite Conservation Park. There are a total of 13 impact sites with the largest being 183 metres in diameter with surrounding ramparts to 6.1 metres - it has been concluded that this was not a single meteorite but the result of several in a shower.
The site has been dated to 4.2±1.9 thousand years ago. In Aboriginal language, the site is called 'Chindu chinna waru chingi yaku', meaning approximately „Sun goes fire devils rock", indicating that the fall and explosion of the meteor was observed (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henbury_%28Meteorit%29).
A 44 kilogram fragment is on display in the Alice Springs Museum.
The main Henbury Crater is a dual crater and referred to as Crater 7a and 7b.
