The Belleisle Gold mine is an underground gold mine accessed from the Mars open pit. Due to 75 metres over overlying sediments, the mine had to be underground rather than an open pit. It is located at the northern end of the small Delta Island, which is half-way between Kambalda and the Lefroy Mill. The island contains a number of deposits, mines and has a complex geology.
The Belleisle Shear Zone strikes north-west, is a reverse sinitral type, dipping 65 degrees south-west, and extends along a 3 kilometre strike. At its south-east limit, its intersects with the Agamenon mine.
The shear zone is up to 80 metres thick, has a central low gold grade zone up to 40 metres thick, and consists of a variably sheared to mylonitic ultramafic-felsic complex, with alteration assemblages of chlorite-biotite-pyrite-albite-fuchsite-sericite, and intense silicification in the higher grade gold zones.
The orebodies plunge shallowly to moderately north-west. It is overlain by 90 metres of Tertiary sediments.
