One of several historic gold mines from 1897, just south of the Shaw Gorge, near the junction of the Shaw River and Callina Creek. See Auraria mine Mindat locality for more direction information.
GML 378. 6 acres. Owned by W. Wye and Walker. Described as located half a mile west of the Eldorado mine. Gold/copper reef, 8 to 18 inches wide, at the base of a low hill, the reef striking east-west, one source stating a flat dip, another to the north. There is another parallel reef on the hillside, which is a similar composition, 12 to 18 inches thick.
The mine was one of several taken up by Wye, in the hope of inducing capitalists to invest in a battery for a share in the profit. This fell through, Wye became ill, and left for the coast.
Little can be seen at the location.
