Historic gold mine.
Christie, et. al., 2007, states the mines have produced 17 kg Au and 4 Kg Ag from quartz veins at a grade of 3.8 g/t.
The only information found was in 1932, just after J.A. McNeil and sons had discovered the reefs. Another paper lists the name as R. McNeil.
One source states the original claim was called Old Trail, but remains unconfirmed. The Long Trail, Red Trail, and Golden Trail were neighbouring claims, with the first two developed for mining across 1932. It is unclear who was controlling the mines once the McNeil's sold out with the Long Trail Gold Mining Company Limited, Te Toanaui Research and Development Company, and a Wellington syndicate all mentioned.
An initial crushing one year after the discovery was sent to the Four in Hand battery elsewhere in the region. Ore was transported out of the site by pack horse, it was so inaccessible. A 5 stamp battery was purchased from an old mine at Thames called Monowai, but it is uncertain if it was ever erected at Colville.
The location is said to be in the mountains behind Colville, likely now a lost location. The Mindat co-ordinates are based on a very basic map, and are therefore very approximate.
