Old gold-copper-iron mines, but gold was known since 1581 according to a letter from the King Johan III to Hans Lejel. For some reason the occurrence was lost until the gold rush started in Germunderyd 1738 (Tegengren, 1924).
Mainly active 1742-1820 but interest did not fade until 1916. A recorded total of 153 kg of gold was produced.
The gold occurs in a number of WNW-striking quartz veins parallel to the host mica schists. Some quartz veins do cut in other directions, their lengths vary from normally 20-25 m up to 80 m. Width is 0.3-0.4 m, but the depth could be considerable >200 m.
Twenty-nine names of mines and test pits occur in an area ~ 1 x 2 km. Adolf Fredriksgruvan is the most important one, driven to a depth of 310 m.
Other important mines are: Gamla Krongruvan and Nya Krongruvan.
Medium gold content was 2 g Au/ton ore.
Today gold washing in the river and a junior company are doing exploration in the province since ...
