β Grossular Formula: Ca3Al2(SiO4)3 Description: Reported by von Knorring (1951) as uvarovite. A review of his analyses show that the garnets are Cr-rich grossular.
The garnets are found in
1) a glassy, dark grey unstratified quartzite impregnated with tiny (1-2 ram.) crystals of pyrrhotine and small aggregates of green garnets up to 10 ram. in diameter.
2) in pyrrhotite ore usually containing approximately equal amounts of pyrrhotite, uvarovite, and diopside. The garbet forms patches up to 1 cm. in diameter. |
