A former underground Cu-Au-Ag mine located n the NWΒΌ sec. 6, T.12N., R.2E. (Mayer 7.5 minute topo map), on 10 claims north of the Agua Fria River, about 1 mile above the Stoddard Ranch, near Mayer. Discovered by I.T. Stoddard. Started Aug 1916 and closed Mar 1919. Reopened during the period 1920-1923. Ultimately closed 1947. Owned by the Arizona-Binghampton Mining Co.
Mineralization is comprised of 3 lenses 10 to 15 feet maximum width, one of which, at least, is 100 feet long and extends down to the 600 foot level. Fissile gray-green schist strikes N.10ΒΊW. and dips 70IW. It is greenish and consists mainly of a pressed quartz porphyry. The three oreshoots are as follows: 105 shoot is 100 feet long & extends down to the 600 foot level; the 91 shoot is 50 feet long and, at most, 10 feet wide; and the 94 shoot (no information). The oreshoots result from the replacement of schist by fine-grained quartz that is not significantly crusted. Ore concentration was oxidation at near surface. Alteration was chloritization and sericitization.
Area structures include foliation and transposed bedding in metavolcanic rocks that trends N-S to N15W. Massive sulfide lenses parallel stratigraphic units.
Workings include an approximate 1,000 foot deep shaft (3 compartment), 600 foot deep shaft, 1,000 feet of adit and 4,000 feet of other workings. Production was some, 8,000,000 pounds of Cu in concentrates (150,000 tons of ore at 3% Cu with 2 oz. Ag/T.
