Juneau County's bedrock is primarily clean Cambrian sandstones. A mound of Precambrian quartzite outcrops at Neceedah, where it is quarried, and displays in places the Cambrian- Precambrian unconformity. The bedrock sticks up as prominent bluffs that were islands and sea stacks within Glacial Lake Wisconsin. Otherwise the sandstone is well exposed along the Dells of the Wisconsin River, a popular tourist attraction. Lake sediments and other glacial drift blanket most of the county.
