A traprock quarry in the Orange Mountain (First Watchung) Basalt. It was operated in the late 1800s to early 1900s for crushed stone. Mineral specimens from this location are usually historical in nature. Although noted in several publications as being in North Plainfield or Plainfield, the property is actually located within the Borough of Watchung. The Watchung Police Department's headquarters at 880 Somerset Street, was constructed on the floor of the former quarry.
