Topaz from
Fillow Quarry (Branchville Quarry; Branchville Mica Mine; Smith Mine), Branchville, Redding (Reading), Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA

Locality type:Quarry
Classification
Species:Topaz
Formula:Al2(SiO4)(F,OH)2
Comments:In Januzzi (1994) he mentions topaz "reported as a single occurrence; additional information is needed concerning the authenticity of the find". In a specimen formerly in his collection are a few glassy, colorless, complexly terminated microcrystals identified as topaz, found in voids a very fine-grained cleavelandite matrix partly filled with calcite. But when examined under SW UV light, they fluoresce the typical bright yellow-white of fluorapatite. They also do not show the perfect basal cleavage of topaz.
Habit:short prismatic
Colour:colorless
Luminescent properties:bright yellow-white under SW and MW UV
Confirmation
Validity:Erroneously Reported
