Type: | Monzogranite | |
Comments: | The primary rock-type in this part of Dartmoor is identified broadly as a biotite monzogranite (previously termed adamellite). The texture varies between a fine granitic texture (with anhedral feldspars to about 6mm) through to a coarse texture (with anhedral feldspars to 25mm). Feldpar porphyroblasts are rarely if ever seen at Foggintor Quarry. Small miarolitic voids are seen in some parts of the quarry - either as stringers of voids or as pods of slightly porous granite. Late stage tourmalines are associated with these zones, although areas of very late stage greisenisation - characterised by schorl-balls, schorl veins and kaolinisation - are not uncommon. Fluorite is often associated with the greisenising fluids. The pluton emplacement is generally placed around 280Ma. | |
