North Mine, Broken Hill, Broken Hill district, Yancowinna Co., New South Wales, Australia

Comments:Bluish green xls, found in the late 1980s; (Fe+Mg)/Mn = 0.54.
All other Broken Hill johannsenites analysed were actually Mn-rich hedenbergites.

However, no specimen should be simply regarded as being johannsenite because it comes from the North Mine. All specimens should be tested to confirm they are either Mn-rich hedenbergite or johannsenite. Specimens which have not been confirmed, should be considered suspect until tested.
