Pretulite from
Höllkogel, Alpl, Freßnitzgraben, Krieglach, Bruck-Mürzzuschlag District, Styria, Austria

Classification
Species:Pretulite
Formula:Sc(PO4)
Comments:The original description of the species was based on up to 0.2 mm large grains (see reference below). However, up to 2 mm large pretulite crystals occur at Höllkogel, but this is not published yet. Pretulite occurs at every lazulite occurence in Krieglach and Mürzzuschlag (e.g. Freßnitzkogel, Wegscheidkreuz, Granegg, Fürstenbauer, Ganztal), but the large crystals are confined to Höllkogel until now.
Habit:ditetragonal-dipyramidal crystals up to 2 mm long
Colour:lith pink, light orange, orange, dark orange
Quality for species:Excellent - world class for species or very significant. (!!)
Abundance at site:Common
Confirmation
Validity:Confirmed
Confirmation Methods:XRD
EPMA
SEM-EDS
Infrared Spectroscopy
