Lepidolite from
Araçuaí, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Classification
Species:'Lepidolite' (not an IMA approved species)
Comments:Sauer (1982): "Near the Piauí river, in the Araçaí municipality, the José da Silva deposit produces large crystals, several dozen centimetres long, and so compact that they can be sculpted into ornamental objects. Some exceptional crystals from the same deposit show translucency across the mass when intensely illuminated: the colour thus obtained is a dark, slightly purplish red, and withstands comparison with antique stained glass."
Colour:purplish red.

Validity:Believed Valid
