Forsterite from
Katukubura Hills, Kolonne (Kolonna; "Kollonne"), Embilipitiya (Embilipitya; Ambilipitiya), Ratnapura District, Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lanka

Comments:The forsterite from this locality has a relateively high fayalite content, and is promoted as dunilite in the gem market. The composition is published as CaO: 0.09, MgO:38.87, MnO: 0.31, FeO: 21.69, SiO2: 37.61. Total 98.57 wt% ( Dunil Palitha Gunaseker(2008): Dunilite- Discovered by Mr Dunil Palitha Gunasekera ).

Individual crystals up to 30cm are known, often with a tabular habitus and dark grayish green colour. Twins and crystal aggregates are not rare. (Muller)
